In living color.

Sometimes you just gotta paint your monster themed nesting dolls in Basil Gogos' style, know what I mean? These were fun to do, and might be the only set I paint this way. Frankenstein's Monster ended up looking more Strange than Karloff but that's okay.

Forenoon or Afternoon?

Today I looked at stats for this blog and the vast majority of views (6), came from Russia. That's pretty cool. I wonder if it's because of the nesting dolls.

Max and I went to Joann Fabric today and sat at the pattern viewing table and looked at Stuffed Magazine together. We wanted to submit something but missed the deadline.

Here is the yeti! He may or may not be going up on Etsy. He hasn't decided yeti.

Progress and Process

Here's a photo of me working at my desk in the model shop.
Photo by my friend Tony P. Chen.

Here is the latest on the yeti creature that I'm making. He's really really skinny!

What's up with you?

Yesterday I went to see a screening of the film I worked on, ParaNorman. It was nice to be so proud to have been part of something that good!

Today I cast up the face and hands of my newest yeti project:

I also did a Basil Gogos style paint test on Drac:

See ya later!

Aunt Cammi really likes monsters, huh?

Newer photos taken by my friend Tony P. Chen:

A picture is worth a thousand words? I'm going to tell everyone that I wrote the equivalent of 9,000 words on my blog just now. (No I'm not.)

Friendship.

Let's get down to brassual tackery.

I won't name any names (because I can't) but it has come to my attention that some of you are finding the blog through other means than our etsy page. And I will have you know that I'm cool with it. I love writing this thing and have made all the plans necessary to post more shit. Here is the newest guy in our etsy shop:

He's happy, trust me. Max made him! He looks like he has to sneeze? I might buy him, is that weird? I really want to have him :(

Sadly,
Cammi

Don't try to be original. Just try to be good.

I asked my little cousins and my niece to draw pictures for me. I wanted to turn the drawings into plush dolls for them. About halfway through the first one, I thought to go online and see if anyone had done this. Several people had and I laughed at myself for thinking it was original.

The architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe said, "Don't try to be original. Just try to be good". There has always been something appealing about the idea of originality. Typically the word is defined as the beginning of  a new concept or the first form. But to be stuck worrying over creating something original can cause us to never do anything at all. Focusing on doing things well is where it's at. I'd rather make something awesome than make an original piece of crap! We don't always remember who started doing something a certain way but we will always remember who the masters were.

I took several liberties with my cousin, Asher's drawing and though this is hardly the work of any sort of master, this is what I came up with:

Also, Ludwig's birth name was Maria. Just saying.

Auf Wiedersehen!
